OBJECTIVE
I am a professional author in Cincinnati, Ohio, seeking steady or
temporary employment to supplement my writing income. I am seeking
a position suited to my skills, such as a freelance writer, proofreader, copyeditor, copywriter, web content provider, researcher, library assistant or archivist,
ideally in a part-time capacity to leave time for my writing.
EDUCATION
- B.S. in Physics from the University of Cincinnati, awarded
August 1993.
- B.A. with High Honors in History from the University
of Cincinnati, awarded August 2002.
SKILLS
- Writing/word processing/copyediting/proofreading: A published
author, avid reader and active online correspondent, with an intimate knowledge
of the English language and excellent spelling and grammar. Familiar
with WordPerfect and MS Word.
- Research:
Trained in fact-finding and interpretation of sources, both as a
history student and as a science-fiction writer. Proficient with
Google searches.
- Organization: An experienced library/bookstore worker with
a keen attention to detail, skilled at keeping and creating order, catching
errors and finding things that are hard to find.
- Analytical thinking: Trained in the scientific and historical
methods, critical thinking and creative problem-solving.
- Dedication: A perfectionist, carrying out my responsibilities
as thoroughly as possible, sometimes even going beyond what is asked.
EXPERIENCE
- For over a decade I have worked as a freelance writer, and have
had several novels, novelettes, short stories, and articles published (see below for a partial bibliography).
- From June 1999 to September 2002 I was a student worker at
the University of Cincinnati’s Langsam Library, with responsibilities including
shelving, sorting, quality control, item searches, record maintenance and
signage maintenance.
- From September 1998 to June 1999 I worked as a shelver in the
textbook department of the University of Cincinnati Bookstore.
- From February through March 1996 I worked as a temporary staff
member of the Star Trek: Federation Science exhibit at the Museum Center
at Cincinnati Union Terminal.
- From October through December 1995 I worked as a temporary
sales associate at the Western Hills Media Play store, with responsibilities
involving shelving, organization of merchandise, and customer service.
- In February 1987 I worked briefly at WGUC-FM, helping in the
physical reorganization of their record library.
