Troop 967, Fairfield OH

Historic Camporee

Ft. St. Clair

April 17-19

The troop will be broken down into two or three patrols for the purpose of military drilling, skills acquisition and other camp duties. Scouts will be "mustered" with members of the First American Regiment. These "sergeants" will instruct our patrol leaders and the patrols. Scout leaders will also be assigned to a patrol. Proper musket handling, loading and firing (blanks) will be taught (permission forms for musket and cannon are attached). Ordered drill is the Order of the Day! Proper cannon loading will also be taught to the Scouts by the certified members of the First American Regiment (we have permission by park officials to fire the regimental cannon and muskets within the park area).

Colleen the Cook will be in charge of menus and meal preparation. We will have the opportunity to dine using menus of the period. Bring your appetite!

All Scouts will be in uniform for this event (please wash and press if necessary)! The Scouts should bring two wool blankets (a sleeping bag may be used) to place on your straw bed in the camping area. We will be using period tents (four per tent). Review your knots, you will need to know them to set up your tent! SM Montgomery will bring firewood; Scouts need to bring axes, knives and canteens. Flashlights may be brought only for emergency use. We will be using period candle lanterns and stands. A camera is appropriate for the camp: no CDs or radios. Don't forget a poncho.

Scouts need to study the two Ft. St. Clair maps and review the two-page history of the area. Review the sections of your Handbook on Cooking, Camping and Orienteering. You may wish to bring your binders to record any merit badge or advancement work. Parents are invited to attend the Court of Honor and join us for the evening meal, or stay all day Saturday with the troop! The cost of this event is $20.00 per person. Attending? Call your Patrol Leaders by Tuesday, April 7. Bring what is underlined!

Be Prepared! Dress for the weather!

Directions to Ft. St. Clair: take 127 north through Hamilton and Camden (passing Woodland Trails Boy Scout Camp on your left) and into Eaton.
