Vintage Baseball Association News Article | | | Wednesday, July 18th, 1860: Harper Blisters New York! Hits for the Cycle! The Ironmakers whipped the Windjammers 21-6 at Elizabeth Fields and Bob Harper had a big hand in the win. The Ironmakers right fielder came to the dish 6 times and collected 5 hits. It was a good day for Harper and a tough day for New York.
"I just go up there and whale away and hope it hits the barrel of the bat," he said. "There really isn't any plan."
Plan or not, Harper delivered today...5-6 is outstanding in any league.
B. Harper hit an RBI double in the 1st, flied out in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, tripled in the 5th, singled in the 6th and hit a two-run base clearer off G. Murphy in the 8th to complete the cycle.
So far this season Harper has 1 four baser and a .307 average. | |
