Vintage Baseball Association News Article | | | Monday, July 30th, 1860: 5-Hits Blitz by Powell It was a hits blitz for Jap Powell at Windjammers Ballpark. The New York Windjammers midfielder tore into Syracuse for 5 hits in 6 at-bats to pace Windjammers to a 11-5 victory and wrote his name into the baseball record book.
The manager for the Black Pirates bemoaned his pitching, saying, "We fell behind and weren't locating well. Once you get behind in the count, you have to make real good hurls, rather than good hurls, and we weren't able to do that today." He added, "Not to take anything away from Powell, but bad location was the story of the match. That's why we lost the match."
J. Powell singled in the 1st, tripled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, flied out in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off T. Hodge in the 9th.
