Vintage Baseball Association News Article | |  | Thursday, August 16th, 1860: Fassett Slams 5 Hits for Elizabeth Scott Fassett got the glory and the headlines today, while the East Orange Pioneers got the win. The Elizabeth third baseman easily handled Pioneers pitching, going 5 for 5, but the Ironmakers came out on the short end of the score 13-9.
He told the newswriters in the post-match interview, "I'm glad I got the hits, but I would trade three or four of 'em for a win...maybe even all 5 of 'em."
The Ironmakers manager added, "Well, it's a shame we didn't get the victory today, especially with his standout performance. Let's just hope our team can do better tomorrow."
S. Fassett singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, hit a three-run shot off P. Speight in the 6th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
