Thursday, August 16th, 1860: Ironmakers Pitching Ravaged by Bridgeman
It was a big day with the willow for Epson Bridgeman of the East Orange Pioneers at Pioneers Ballpark as he bashed out hit after hit after hit to defeat Elizabeth 13-9.

To the writers after the match he modestly said, "Guys, it's just one game in a long season. I hit it hard and found some holes today -- Bingo! -- 5 hits in 6 tries! But my hits are not the big thing in the match. The victory is the important thing. That's the story."

At the end of the match Bridgeman had collected 5 hits in 6 at-bats and a small mention in the record book. He was happy. He had a big day with the bat. And the Pioneers had won.

The beat writers were happy, too. They had their big story -- they could write about his big day with the bat.

E. Bridgeman grounded out in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off J. Koziol in the 8th.

Bridgeman has collected 80 hits for the Pioneers this year, 2 of them four basers. He has also netted 39 RBIs and tallyed 46 times while batting .299.
