| Breaking News | | Sunday, September 2nd, 1860: 5-Hits Blitz by Miller Somedays you can't win for losing. Just ask Dave Miller. He was the King of Strikers in the match against the Orioles, but his Crows were beaten 10-7 anyway.
The New Rochelle catcher stepped into the striker's box 5 times against the Celoron and delivered 5 hits.
It was a sensational game for him. He excitedly told the writers, "Unbelieveable feeling. Unbelieveable. It felt good. It felt great on the one hand, but a downer at the same time. What a day! 5 for 5! It does wonders for your average. But it's a shame we couldn't win it, too."
D. Miller doubled in the 1st, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit a solo-shot off A. Smalley in the 8th and hit an RBI triple in the 9th.
In 62 matches Miller is hitting .237 this season for the Crows with 66 hits, 1 four basers, 27 RBIs, no walks, .247 OBP and has tallyed 42 times . | | Sunday, September 2nd, 1860: Miller Touches All the Bases, Hits Cycle It was a special day for Dave Miller at Crows Ballpark -- the New Rochelle catcher hit for the cycle.
"To hit for the cycle" is one of the rarest of feats in a baseball match. This occurs when a ballist hits a base hit, two baser, three baser and four baserun in the same game, getting every type of hit possible.
The 19-year-old Miller racked up 2 singles, 1 two basers, 1 three basers and 1 four basers to get his name mentioned in the record book. For the match he was 5-5.
But all that didn't win the match as the Orioles took home the victory 10-7.
In the words of Celoron manager, "He hit everything we threw. There was just no getting him out today."
"I'm glad for Dave," his manager said. "It's a once-in-a-lifetime thing and a nice feather in your cap. Would've been better if we could have won the match for him, too."
Speaking to the writers after the match, Miller gave the key for his record-setting day. "First throw fastballs, that's what I was looking for today...and I got 'em."
D. Miller doubled in the 1st, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit a solo-shot off A. Smalley in the 8th and hit an RBI triple in the 9th.
This year Miller has hit at a .237 clip with 27 RBIs, 1 four basers and 42 tallys. | | Saturday, August 18th, 1860: Rondon Super Sharp! Whips New Rochelle The Barre manager told reporters after the match, "When he started out, his command wasn't that good, but he's a tough guy. The more hurls he tosses, the better his command is."
He was talking about Doc Rondon, who had just hurled a fine 5-hit whitewash over the New Rochelle Crows. He had 3 strikeouts and no walks in the Barre 10-0 victory.
"An outstanding job," the New Rochelle manager said. "We couldn't get anything going. Every time we got a hit, he got out of the jam. He pitched a terrific match."
Rondon has gone 5-3 this season with an ERA of 1.62 and 16 strikeouts in 78 innings pitched. Other clubs are hitting .196 against him. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | 3B Ed McDade | torn anterior cruciate ligament | 2 months | On DL, eligible for return (60-day DL) | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 19-45, .297 PCT | | Position in Division | 8th, 23.0 GB | | Record at home | 9-23, .281 PCT | | Record on the road | 10-22, .313 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 2-2, .500 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 8-6, .571 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 3-7, .300 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 16-38, .296 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 3-7, .300 PCT | | Record in May | 2-11, .154 PCT | | Record in June | 5-10, .333 PCT | | Record in July | 4-13, .235 PCT | | Record in August | 6-10, .375 PCT | | Record in September | 2-1, .667 PCT |
