The Celoron artist made 59 starts this year, leaving nothing but elated Orioles cranks and a devastated opposition in his wake. He finished with a 36-17 record, hurled 500.2 innings, allowed 416 hits, fanned 102, walked 41, and compiled a 1.42 ERA.
Smalley will be honored this weekend at the Writers Association annual awards banquet. |  | Thursday, September 27th, 1860: Smalley Picks Up ABA Outstanding Newcomer Award When the newswriters saw Adam Smalley on the pitcher's point in his debut season, they liked what they saw, so much so they voted him the 1860 Amatuer Baseball Association Outstanding Newcomer Award winner. The 22-year-old hurler really put on a show with a sparkling record of 36 wins and 17 losses. He started 59 times, worked 500.2 innings, yielded 416 hits, struck out 102, walked 41 and notched an impressive 1.42 ERA. Not bad numbers at all for a newcomer.
All of the league award winners will be honored this weekend at the Writers Association annual dinner. |  | Friday, September 14th, 1860: Barre Tops Celoron for ABA Title It was a storybook year for the Barre Woodchoppers as they closed out a 3-2 series win over the Celoron Orioles to claim the 1860 Amatuer Championships. They wrapped it up with a 11-1 victory to cap an incredible season and brought home their 1st championship.
The Woodchoppers manager gave his view of the series, "We had a lot of things going for us, offense and defense doing it at the right time. That's what it takes win a Amatuer Championships."
"We're disappointed we lost, but we're also very proud of what we did all year," said the Orioles manager. "They played better baseball than us and they beat us."
