A Pilgrimage to Assisi in the
Footsteps of Francis and Clare
June 9-17, 2008
Director: Dr. Gillian Ahlgren
Enter into the lives of Christianity’s most beloved mystics, Francis and Clare, by
traveling to the world of Assisi, Italy. This immersion experience will offer ample
time for reflection as well as conversation with other faith seekers. The eight-day
pilgrimage includes lecture and discussion at places of significant impact to
Francis, including the town of Perugia where he was imprisoned for a year after
being captured in war, the townsquare of Assisi where he dramatically stripped
himself of his clothing to “nakedly follow the naked Christ,” the church of San
Damiano where he heard God’s invitation to “rebuild the church,” and an ascent
to La Verna where his imitation of Christ culminated in the experience of the
stigmata. The Franciscan legacy of voluntary poverty, solidarity with the suffering
Christ, and apostolic teaching by word and example comes alive as we explore the
implications of Franciscan insights and values to today’s world.(Based on double occupancy, this includes round trip airfare,
lodging, excursions, and most meals.)TOTAL COST: $3350DEPOSIT: $300
