Music is an integral part of our liturgies at St. Monica-St. George. We do mostly contemporary music, with some more traditional hymns at two of the weekend Masses. The choir rehearses together on Thursday evenings from September through May from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. in the church. Each group also practices before Mass.
There are four weekend liturgies: 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, 8:30 a.m., 10:30
a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Sundays. We usually have a cantor and piano on Saturdays
and choirs at all Sunday Masses. There are people of varying ages in each
group, and UC students in each group, but the 5:30 p.m. Sunday liturgy is geared
toward the University community. There is a cantor schedule for all four
Masses done for about twelve weeks at a time.

Lectors: Anyone who is interested in reading at any of the Masses must attend a required training session given at the parish. These are given every October and again in January for any new people who would like to participate. The two parishioners who coordinate this ministry print out a schedule for all four Masses for several months at a time, and there are two lectors at each Mass. Contact Ann Boltz annboltz@fuse.net for more information.
Eucharistic Ministers: Another very important liturgical ministry is those who minister the bread and cup to the community at Mass. A training session is required in order to be commissioned for this special ministry. The training is offered every October and January for any new people interested in becoming a Eucharistic Minister. A schedule of ministers is printed for several months at a time and is available to all those participating. We use three ministers for Sat. 4:30 and Sun. 8:30 Mass, and five ministers for Sunday 10:30 and 5:30 p.m. Contact Ann Boltz annboltz@fuse.net
Ministry to the Sick: Each Sunday morning, we have a group of people who rotate going to an area nursing home and doing a communion service for the residents. This is a wonderful and meaningful way to help those who are no longer able to attend Mass. We also have people who help to take communion to some of our shut-in parishioners. Anyone interested in helping with this ministry should contact Ann Boltz annboltz@fuse.net.
Day of Reflection: Each year we try to do a morning of reflection for all those involved in any of the liturgical ministries. We usually invite someone in to speak to us about a particular aspect of liturgical ministry, prayer or some other related topic. More information is available in the fall.
