O.K. So this lady pegged me from the gitgo.  They had a flat roof and wanted this eliptical look.  She knew I wasn't going to be happy just building an arch so she said something about a design and I said sunshine and she said "kewl" and I was after it.

Cedar and 1/4" BCX ply over bent 2x4 trusses.  The trusses (two of them) are cored with 7/16" chipboard and I took the added precaution of using up some old yellow oil based paint I had laying around for some extra protection on the chipboard (OSB).  "Never throw anything away that may have a use.  Ya just never know".

The arched cove is all hand glued and milled.  I took out most of the mass with some panel raising bits in the router, glued a coved edge 1x4 on top and used it as a guide to finish the main cove (by hand! no we don't have any fancy machines here).  The box gutter on the end is all solid cedar and lined with rubber roofing.  A scupper was installed in the center of the box.

The installation was fairly straight forward.  The entire roof was fabricated in the shop and set in place on top of two lookout beams where the original flat roof sat.  It was fairly easy to do.  I used a special jig made up for a 4" grinder to follow the contour of the roof and gouge a furrow in the stucco for the copper flashing, rolled the rubber up the wall and covered it with the copper and caulked the furrow with rubber caulk.  NO!!!!!!!NOT SILICONE.  We only use silicone where no maintenance is required.

The view from the street as we finish the fastening to the house.  This was an engineering nightmare.  The original porch roof was a rotten mess.  The beams were shot and the ceiling was only barely salvagable.  We did save the ceiling, replaced the beams and fastened everything without tearing up the inside of the house.  We did maintain the original look of the trim lines.  It looks original.  Aren't I special. hahahahaha
