Coming off their best game of the year Sunday against St. Henry, Bishop Brossart came out a little flat against Pendleton County. The first 35 minutes was pretty even play with both teams getting off some shots with very physical play. About a minute later, Ryan Neltner took a pass off an inbounds play on the left side and just out-muscled the defender to gain advantage and one on one with the keeper popped it into the net, making it 1-0 Brossart. That was it for the half but it seemed to break the ice for the Mustangs.
The second half, the came out more aggressive and quickly moved the ball into the Pendleton County side of the field. After several runs at the goal, Michael Bartlett intercepted a pass and as the ball hit the ground, Michael ripped a laser shot to the upper right of the goal giving the Mustangs a 2-0 lead. Meanwhile, the defense was starting to wear down the opponents as Matt Moore, Joe Cropenbaker and Adam Manning made several nice stops. A few minutes later, Mitch Patterson launched a corner kick in front of Pendleton’s goal but the ball kicked out to Michael Bartlett who smartly poked it back to Mitch, still standing in the corner, where he launched it again, this time finding Kevin Rust making a run on the left side who he headed it in for a comfortable 3-0 lead. Not done yet and at the 20 minute mark, Brad Ostendorf, seeing some offensive action, hit Casey McGrath in front of the opponents goal where Casey threaded the needle with a sweet touch pass to a charging Ryan Neltner who neatly one-touched it into the net for his second goal of the night and the 4th and final goal of the game. Jeremy Beckerich recorded another shutout with the save going to Jon Muench. Final, Brossart 4, Pendleton 0.
Next up for Brossart will be Scott High School in the opener of the Boots & Butts Tournament in Hopkinsville at 8:00pm.
