                                 WINTER FIRES

With the winter holidays arrives the most likely season for residential fires.  According to the National Fire Protection Association, nearly one-third of home fires occur during the winter, causing billions of dollars in damage and thousands of injuries and deaths.

Space heaters, wood stoves, and candles used for holiday celebrations are often to blame.   Diehl Insurance is teaming up with MetLife Auto & Home to offer a fire safety brochure, and a coloring book featuring the PEANUTS ™ Gang for the kids that gives tips for the fireplace, using turkey fryers, and sensible holiday decorating. You may order your free copy by contacting us at 965-0003 or by email insurancediehl@cinci.rr.com

AUTO INSURANCE TIP

Have you listed every driver in your household on your insurance policy?  Most drivers believe that they may lend their car to another driver, and have the owner’s insurance protect the car.  However, there is an exception to this rule – the driver many not be a member of the owner’s household.

It makes sense – what parent would pay to add their new teen driver to the family auto policy if they could just “lend” the car to their child and not pay anything extra?  Inexperienced drivers are responsible for a high number of accidents, and insurance companies need to charge appropriately to cover these risks.

The same risk applies to other household members – cohabitating non-married couples, adult children who move back home, etc. must be declared on the policy, and rated based on their driving history, for coverage to apply.  If you have a household member not listed on your policy, do not allow them to drive your car and vice-versa!
