Bones’ garden 2008
These are not full-resolution photos, but I didn't want to shrink them down too much – if you're having trouble seeing the whole picture without scrolling there are two things you can do:
- The best thing you can do is to increase your video resolution: right-click on a blank space on your desktop screen, select "Properties", click on the "Settings" tab, and adjust the "Screen resolution" slider
- If you can almost see the whole pictures in the Cincybones homepage frame, you can open the photo page by itself, outside the frame, by right-clicking on the "Bones' Garden" link, and selecting "Open in New Window"
The 2007 garden page ended with an interior shot from March, 2008 - here's what it looked like outside at that time
A little later in March, the window plants got to take a little sun and fresh air
Some other things that went on in March; the buckeye buds started to grow ...
... the Asian magnolia next to my driveway, by my neighbor's porch, flowered ...
... and, as usual, the golden poppies are among the first flowers to bloom
Also confusingly called celandine poppies, they also bloom longer than most flowers, although this photo from April hardly demonstrates that point
Another shot from April shows things starting to look a little more colorful
Could this be the same butterfly who visited last year?
I wanted to grow more vegetables this year - this is the veggie garden in early May
Later in May I set up an unusual tomato trellis from salvaged lattice
Another early-May / late-May comparison: the two on top are early – the bottom one late. The cannas don't do much in May unless you start them indoors or plant the rhizomes early, and get lucky with the weather
May's specialties are, of course, Azaleas ...
... and, of course, Irises
2008 was another drought year, like 2007. We only got one real downpour in May
The Bottlebrush Buckeye is one of my favorite June-blooming trees
June is also when the Cannas really start to shoot up
There's a lot going on in this stretch of bed in June: the Iris aren't blooming anymore, but the astilby, the lilies, and the rose are ...
... and just a week or two later, so are the monarda and the rudbeckia
What else blooms in June?
the prickly pears ...
... tradiscantea, dianthus, hosta ...
And June is the beginning of Raspberry Season!
And then a few days after the Fourth of July, I got these little fireworks in my garden.
By mid-July there are lots of green apples on the tree -
By the time they're turning red at the end of July, only a few are left. I think the squirrels get them.
Here's Bonnie guarding the front porch!
I call this locally perennial hibiscus "Pinky" – Ain't she purty?!?
I've got several shots of bonnie and this butterfly – butterfly gives us a lot of poses, Bonnie hardly moves!
I love the delicate little flowers of the blackberry iris; such a nice pattern in subtle orange-peach hues
For a drought year I sure got a a lotta rain pictures, eh?
These two pictures were taken the penultimate day of July
I've spent too long in July! Let's move on to the fall months:
September:
Still got that huge colcasia!
October:
November:
Found these meadow mushrooms just three blocks away!
And these, of course, are from the garden
