New CD featuring these boxes.

"Steirische Harmonika"

Zupan Alpe V DR

This Zupan is a 5-row Diatonic Button Box with a Helikon Bass. Both the melody
and bass sides are MIDI 'ed using magneto style triggers. It is known as a
"Steirische Harmonika" and is played in Austria, Bavaria and South Tyrol. The melody
side usually has 3, 4 or 5 rows of buttons with each row being a different key.
The bass side is different in that it has a Helikon bass which are very large and
long reed plates that produce a very strong (honking) bass sound. Note the horn-like bells
on the bass side that helps project the sound.
