Notes from Mike O'Grady to his Jesuit Community
December 20-24, 2003

Note One:

I met with Roy Bourgeois—director of SOA Watch--today. He is suggesting that I bond out on Tuesday, January 20 th & help out in the trial prep & other activities of fellowship and community building prior to the trial. I was already inclined toward this and remain open to it in prayer.

I'm checking into how we would go about the bonding process and will have more information shortly. It would likely be a $1,000 amount which would be returned if I appear for trial, which, of course, I would.

I think the jail people will now begin allowing paperbacks through the mail. Can you try and test this by sending my copy of “Hearts on Fire—Praying with Jesuits.” The prayers in there would be extremely helpful to me in my counseling and ministry in here. The book is somewhere on one of my shelves. It is a slim paperback.

[Editor's note: The small book Mike requested was mailed last Friday. We will let you know if it gets through.]

Note Two:

I hope you guys have a blessed and peaceful Christmas with family and friends. I'm finding the Good Spirit is currently moving me into a quieted, consoled space after the turbulence & desolation of the first month. I'm finding peace & happiness, both interiorly & exteriorly. I think this is our advent prayers being answered. Thank you.

Note Three:

I am grateful for your most recent notes and glad to hear you're thinking about joining us for the prep weekend & trial. I received your pictures, Jim, and I'm sharing them with some friends here. Joe, thank for the neat family update you sent.

Bill Quigley and Bob Phares recommend getting reservations at the Howard Johnsons on Veterans Parkway , where much of the activity will be centered, if you do indeed come down.

Can I ask you guys to make a reservation for me for a non-smoking small room for 1/20 until 1/29. If I can get a double bed room Joe Mulligan and I may share the space. I'm planning on bonding out on the 20 th and will provide more details as they come to light. It might be helpful to do this quickly because rooms may fill up. If there's none available at good cost, there's an Econo-Lodge across the street that would likely be less expensive. Thank you for getting back to me with details & confirmation on this!

Editor's note: A room reservation has been made for Mike at Howard Johnsons. In doing some checking on the web, I found the most reasonable room rates in the area are at the Motel 6 that is just a little ways down the road. Someone from SOAW is calling about discount rates, and they may come up with something better.]
