Founded in 1994 and sponsored by Mt. Auburn Presbyterian Church, the Brass Fellowship brings together student, amateur and professional brass musicians from the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area. Members of the brass ensemble come from many vocations including music, education, systems, and the law, but all share a passion for music. The Brass Fellowship strives to unearth the rich literature of over 400 years of brass choir music and regularly present it to the public at the highest level of musicianship possible.
About the Conductor: Professor Gary L. Johnston, Conductor of the Brass Fellowhip, is a member of the faculty at Northern Kentucky University where he teaches courses in electronic and computer music technology, orchestration and music appreciation. He is a trombonist and president of the board of the Cincinnati Community Orchestra, and has performed as trombonist with the Clermont Symphony Orchestra, the Hamilton-Fairfield Symphony Orchestra, the Sounds of Sousa Band, the Nashville and Cincinnati Symphony Orchestras, Northern Kentucky Symphony and Brighton Brass Band. As Trombonist with the Commonwealth Brass Quintet, he recorded a series for National Public Radio (NPR). His advanced work includes conducting study with the late Thomas Shippers. Mr. Johnston is an active composer and arranger.
