I paint and construct
pictures
which strive to connect the past with the present. I respect
the traditions of painting as well as the need for renewal
and experimentation. My paintings are imagined places created
in
a variety of materials and mediums such as oil, beeswax,
tempera,
or acrylic paint. I use rigid
supports
of wood or fired clay.
The surfaces are varied,
expressive of a time worn reality and clearly handmade, a
quality
less evident in this digital format . The computer, as a
tool
for creativity and communication, offers exciting new
opportunities,
but it cannot replace the richness of tactile
experience.
