Department of Biological Sciences

Northern Kentucky University

Since 1990, I have been teaching at NKU. Most of the time I teach General Biology for Non-Science Majors, but I also have been known to teach Human Anatomy & Physiology, General Biology, and Entomology.

If you are trying to do a report for school, you might find the electronic reference sources from NKU's library very helpful!

Entomologist

As far back as I can remember, I always loved insects. This passion for entomology resulted in my study of Entomology at the collegiate level. I received my B.S. and M.S. in Entomology at Ohio State University and my PhD. in Entomology at Michigan State University.

Stamp Collector

When I was younger, I collected stamps from all over the world. I have no doubt that this taught me world geography better than any class on the subject could. Now that I am a bit older, I spend my time collecting U.S. plate blocks.

Collecting stamps is becoming more complicated now than it ever was in the past, due to the large number, and specialized issues of stamps that are being released by the U.S. Postal Service. The following link should prove to be useful for anyone interested in collecting U.S. postage stamps.

Avid Reader of Science Fiction and Fantasy

While I do not have much in the way of "spare time", I have always made time in my busy schedule to enjoy a good book. My favorite choice of topics has mainly been in the realm of science fiction and fantasy, where my imagination could run wild.

These are some of my favorite books. I heartily recommend them to others who like this type of fiction and I do not think that you will be disappointed if you pick up one of these to read. (Many of these are the first book in a series on the same theme or major character)

  1. The Hobbit & The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien
  2. Dune by Frank Herbert
  3. Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
  4. Seventh Son by Orson Scott Card
  5. Foundation by Isaac Asimov
  6. Rendezvous with Rama by Arthur C. Clarke
  7. Hyperion by Dan Simmons
  8. Gateway by Frederick Pohl
  9. Ringworld by Larry Niven
  10. The Vor Game by Lois McMaster Bujold
  11. Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton
  12. Crystal Singer by Anne McCaffrey
  13. The Elvenbane by Andre Norton & Mercedes Lackey
  14. Midworld by Alan Dean Foster
  15. Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes
  16. The Lathe of Heaven by Ursula K. LeGuin
  17. There are so many great titles out there, it is hard to pick just a few. Certainly, the Hugo and Nebula award winners are nearly always great reads.
