Research entomologist at NRM since 1994. Department head since 1996.
Interests: Systematics, taxonomy, phylogeny, biogeography and biology
of two-winged insects (Diptera) with special emphasis on the Tachinidae
family-group (Calliphoridae, Oestridae, Rhinophoridae, Sarcophagidae, Tachinidae).
Biological diversity with special emphasis on tropical insects. Speciation,
macroevolutionary theory and historical ecology.
Current research projects include: A global master species database
of the Sarcophagidae; higher-level phylogenetic studies within the Tachinidae
family group; evolution and historical ecology of botflies.
Field experience: Nearctic: Greenland (1982), Florida (1989);
Neotropical: Brazil (1993), Costa Rica (1995, 1996); Afrotropical:
Tanzania (1990, 1991), Uganda (1991); Palearctic: Madeira (1984);
Oriental: Malaysia (1994).
