“WHY CHRISTMAS TREES AREN’T PERFECT”
Back by popular demand, Dancelot Studio is pulling out the Renaissance costumes, horse collars, 7 foot sleigh, and dancing Christmas tree costumes for the beloved holiday show, “Why Christmas Trees Aren’t Perfect!” PUBLIC AUDITIONS are being held at Dancelot on Saturday Aug 23rd from 1:30 - 4:00 (see poster above for times.) Roles will be cast for 50 dancers for the parts of Small Pine, the Princess, the Queen, the Lost Fawn, the Hound Dog, the Rabbit, the Bird, the Snow Queen, the Sleigh Driver, Snowflakes, Angels, Woodchoppers, Evergreens of the Queen's forest, Garland Girls, Ornament Children, and the Decoration Dancers. If you are interested in being part of this show please read the following policies, then come dance with us!! Start the holidays by giving the gift of dance!
PRODUCTION DETAILS
This year we have made some important improvements to our production operations in order to make the staging of a show of this magnitude easier on everyone involved.
1) First, we are requiring auditions to cast the roles. If you wish to be cast you need to attend the audition! Auditions are the fair way to give out solo, duet, trio, etc, parts since these are roles in which many dancers wish to be cast. Also, via auditions we will determine a person’s true commitment toward the time and effort involved in presenting a show of this caliber. Approximately 50 parts will be cast. Auditions are available for dancers aged 5 to 65 years of age. Experience in dance or theatre dance IS required. Attendance at the audition does not ensure casting in a role. Come in dance attire, warmed up and ready to dance in jazz shoes or ballet slippers.
2) “Why Christmas Trees Aren’t Perfect.” is a short show, with a sound track of merely 35 minutes and a wrap-around script of about 10 minutes. Each performance evening you can expect to be at the Anderson Center Theatre from 5:30 8:00 for warm-up and show, a short time by performance standards. We plan to have multiple performances in order to keep the ticket price down and allow many publicviewings of the show. If it seems needed, we may have a Saturday matinee at 2 PM on Dec 6, specifically marketed for little children. This is our first year trying this venue for the holiday show, so please be patient as we figure out the best way to get our dancers showcased!
3) Since “WCTAP” (fondly called “WCTAP”, pronounced “wick-tap”) is a short production, only ONE cast is necessary. Each main role will be cast with ONLY ONE lead dancer and an understudy. The understudy will fulfill the role of the lead only if the lead is ill or injured. The understudy cast is NOT a second cast, so understudies should not expect to be featured in a performance beyond their regular casting which they may be pulled from to fill the lead if needed. Frequently, understudies are first in line for that role the next year. We have found that multiple changes in casting only creates many extra rehearsals for ALL. This is especially frustrating for performers and staff who are constant in their attendance at all scheduled rehearsals, but are asked to come to extra rehearsals to accommodate the needs of changing cast parts. Due to the short production time, this sort of cast changing also yields a less-than-show-worthy performance. THUS, ONE good, well rehearsed cast is our goal. To be cast in “WCTAP” you MUST be able to make all the regular classes throughout the semester (2 excused absences allowed), as well as all rehearsals, and performances throughout the week of Nov 24-Dec 6, 2008. DURING those 2 weeks, absence due to excused illness may not=2 0exceed 1 rehearsal or 1 performance or a replacement will be cast.
4) Dancers must be enrolled in the appropriate classes to learn the choreography of their part. If cast but not yet enrolled in Dancelot classes, you will be notified of the classes you are required to take to learn the part. Before auditions, dancers must sign a consent form stating their intention to be present for ALL rehearsals and shows in order to be cast in ANY PART.
MANDATORY REHEARSALS AND SHOWS
The following rehearsals and performances are currently scheduled and mandatory for participation. CHECK YOUR CALENDAR AND MAKE SURE OF YOUR PLANS BEFORE CONSENTING TO THIS COMMITMENT! If a change in our schedule is necessary (due to venue or staffing problems), you will be notified AS SOON AS WE LEARN ABOUT IT.

TWO LEFT FEET? Try the DANCE SAMPLER class!
The Dance Sampler Class is an adult/teen class for ALL sizes, shapes and genders of people aged 12 and over. It is a beginning level class that offers basic ballet and jazz technique in one combo-class! If you've ever been interested in trying formal dance training, but were afraid you'd find out you have 2 left feet, THIS is the low-key, non-stress class for you! Or if you'd like to improve your general dance skills for another form of dance you are studying, this also is the class to take! Past members of the class included a belly dancer, a ballroom dancer, a color guard dancer and a liturgical dancer. Come join us! You don't have to wear tights and tutus--just comfortable stretch clothes such as sweats. Soft leather jazz shoes are optional but highly recommended. Sooooooo.........ready......set.......Leap!
Toddlers in TUTUs and Bouncing Boys!
This class is geared towards the little dancer aged 2-3 years old. We "play" with hula hoops, scarves, scrubbies, drums (and anything else that catches our fancy!) to develop large and fine motor skills, listening skills, and social skills that prepare the little dancer for more structured dance training. The class meets on Wednesday mornings from 9:30 -10:00 AM, a perfect way to start the day before going to the Mt. Washington Public Library for Story Time at 10:30 AM. Toddlers In Tutus is open to bouncing boys as well! If you have an even YOUNGER dancer who won't stop tip-toeing around the house, check out Kindermusik, just down the street from Dancelot Studio, on Campus Lane; 513-231-3973.
If you have any questions or suggestions please email us at Dancelot3580@aol.com. We LOVE positive new ideas for solving problems or creating new show opportunities!
