Edman Brown
Aged Contractor Died Here Last Thursday

Funeral services were held at the Versailles Baptist Church last Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock for Edman Brown, 71, Versailles building contractor, who died at the Woodford Memorial hospital Thursday after a short illness. The services were conducted by the Rev. Dr. John G. Dickson, pastor of the church. Burial was in the Versailles cemetery.

The deceased was the son of the late Samuel and Mrs. Nancy Cheaney Brown, of Franklin Co. He was married in Louisville Jan 1, 1900, to Miss Cora Mae Johnson, who survives him. He was a member of the Versailles Baptist Church.

Besides his wife, Mr. Brown is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Wesley Burgess of Louisville; Mrs. Andrew Schad of Versailles; Miss Viola Brown of Versailles; and Mrs. James Forrester of Harlan; one son, Mack S. Brown, Cleveland, Ohio; two brothers, Abe Brown and Durand Brown, both of Versailles; three sisters, Mrs. Levi Henderson and Mrs. S. P. Dozier, both of Versailles; and Mrs. Grant Kennedy of Frankfort; ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

The body was removed to Duell's funeral parlor and from there to the home on Court St.

Mr. Brown removed to Versailles with his father in 1882 and spent his entire life here. He was an active member of the Baptist church and a deacon in the Versailles congregation.

Honorary pallbearers included Ernest McWilliams, Roy Williams, Will Baker, Ulysses Turner, J. Y. Edwards, J. V. Yocum, Powhatan Wooldridge, J. R. Binford and J. P. Tune.

Active pallbearers included William D. Brown, Nat Thompson, Wallace Eades, Ed Dozier, S. P. Dozier Jr. And Ollie Whitehouse.

Edman Brown, 71, a Versailles building contractor, died November 25, 1943 after a brief illness.

He moved to Versailles in 1882 with his father and spent nearly his entire life here.

Survivors are his wife; four daughters, Mrs. Wesley Burgess, Mrs. Andrew Schad, Miss Viola Brown and Mrs. James Forrester; a son, Mack S.
