************************************************************************ ** I received this info (and the info on several other SAUNDERS familys) ** from a fellow researcher when I first caught the genealogy bug. ** However, I have found what is probably more reliable information ** about this family by searching the web. One site that has MUCH more ** info about this family is: ** http://members.aol.com/GeniBug/Saundersindex.html ** ** Of course there is no link from that site back to this site, so if ** you want to come back here, either bookmark this site or use your ** browser's BACK button. ************************************************************************ The Family of Henry Saunders (son of James and Sarah Gunnel Saunders) Henry (21 Sep 1755 - 19 Feb 1823) m Patience Oxley (9 Nov 1761 - 31 Jan 1852) Children born to this marriage were: Anna (22 Feb 1781 - ?) Thomas married (1832) Mary Meade also in Loudoun County, then married Sarah Hough Presley married (7 Oct, 1804) Mary Sanders, John Sanders's daughter. James married (2 Jan, 1817) Priscilla T. Forman Henry married Delia (? last name) Everett married (16 May 1816) Susan Bashaw. Susan’s father was Elijah Bashaw (1773 - 28 Nov 1863) Many members of the Henry Saunders family are buried in Union Cemetery, Leesburg, Virginia. Henry (Sr) moved to Adair County, KY. On 30 October, 1812, Henry (Sr) filed a Power of Attorney in Adair County, Kentucky authorizing Newton Coffey and Reatherford Coffey: "to in my name to ask for and demand and receive such part and proportion of the estate of James Saunders, now deceased, late of the County of Loudon and State of Virginia, both of the real and personal as I may be entitled to either by inheritance or by last will and testament of the said James Saunders, dec’d." James Saunders died in Loundon County, Virginia in 1778. Why Henry waited until 24 years later to file an estate claim is not yet known. One possible theory is James Saunders’s estate may have been contested or a dispute over property rights may have happened. This, however, is only speculation as of this writing and is not proven.
