[unreadable] Over His Daughter's Death, Takes His Life. Melvin Stokely, aged 45, formerly of Pinckard, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound last Friday in Madison county. Mr. Stokely and his family moved to Madison county three weeks ago. He was dissatisfied there and was preparing to return to Woodford. Brooding over the death of his daughter, Bertha Stokely, who was accidentally killed at Pinckard last December, unbalanced his mind and caused his suicide. Mr. Stokely was a native of Madison county, and had lived in Woodford county twenty-six years. He was an industrious and upright man. He was a member of the Baptist church. He is survived by his wife and five children, his father, George Stokely, aged 88, of Madison county, his sister, Mrs. John Perkins, of near Versailles, and three half brothers and two half sisters. Mr. Stokely's body was brought to Versailles Saturday afternoon and was buried in the cemetery here. Rev. E. D. Poe conducted services at the grave. [KY Death Certificate:]
