New Firewire drive and SuperDuper!
Posted on 11/05/08

Just got my new OWC "On The Go" 80 gig hard drive!
It came with hundreds of dollars of software on CD as well as freeware and shareware on the drive.
I backed up what I wanted to another 80 gig drive, and it's gone off the new drive now.
I used SuperDuper to clone my 40 gig drive that is internal but failing slowly. New PWC drive boots up as the start disc perfectly and all files are intact and the same.
SuperDuper saved me from install Tiger and $300 worth of software. I'm more then thrilled!
Disc arrived!

Yes as of 1:42PM my disk have come from FastMac,and I now have Tiger on CDROM!
The disk came with everything I needed to reinstall Tiger cleanly.
Even came with iLife '05 and iWork '05 trial!
Even Appleworks 6,Quicken,World Book Encyclopedia, and two full version games!
These disc originally came with the eMac's sold in 2005 with the 1.4 gig processor, but FastMac resells them.
These eMacs were for schools and some still lacked a DVD drive or could be sold with or without one.
So special 10.4 disc were included.
Either way,if they sense you are installing from an eMac,they will install. Regardless of if from 2005 or not.
I was able to install Tiger and the software cleanly from disk 1 to disk 13.
I did have to delete my previous install of Panther, but that was ok.
I now have updated Tiger versions anyway. :)
PRAM
Posted on 09/24/08

Well,it seemed everything was failing on this eMac doesn't it?
Hard disk,OS X,and well I also discovered the PRAM also has failed.
Yes,it doesn't keep the settings at all.
Leaving it off a few hours causes the clock to revert back to an older date of 1968!
Signs of a failed PRAM.
Luckily,I found some new at FastMac that should arrive soon.
Back to Panther!

Had to erase the drive and install Mac OS X 10.3.9, because I goofed up the dependancies in Tiger.
Sucks!
But this is temporary, as I am planning to get the Mac OS X 10.4 CD version on the 3rd of October from FastMac.com.
Panther is running well though with 512mb of SDRAM installed and the G4 700MHZ processor.
But Panther is a tad slower than Tiger on the same machine.
There is a slight delay.
But so far Panther is installed cleanly and does a good job.
Sadly though Panther is becoming obsolete more and more.
S.M.A.R.T Fails?
Posted on 09/13/08

Had a few issues with the disk reading as S.M.A.R.T failing.
Contacted the store I bought it(Hertel Computers in Buffalo NY. Listed in links).
Seems the disk was tested, and under Tiger the 40 gig drive often reads wrongly.
But if it fails within 30 days indeed,I can send it back for my money back.
It has arrived!

Finally I have my hands on a G4!
I have ben using the iMac G3 350MZ computer in my room for a year. I have two of those models running OS X 10.3.9.
Also a iMac G3 333mhz system my mother has.
It too has a clean install of Panther.
But all of those are slow older iMacs, and nearly a good ten years old!
The graphics cards are so slow, that the Fast User Switching feature does not show in 3D due to lack of Quartz Extreme.
Seems if your Mac has a slow ATI Rage 128 card set at 8mb to 16mb it will not work.
It has to be the 32mb upgrade card if ATI.
Luckily,this is the original eMac.
700mhz,40 gig hard disk,256mb of RAM,and Tiger.
The graphics card is an Nvidia GEForce2 MX and set at 32mb with 2X AGP.
The graphics are smoother and the Quartz Extreme is perfect.
This system is about around 30- 50 times faster than any of the iMac G3's.
Tiger runs a tad slowly, but that is due to the RAM.
I managed to install 512mb of RAM to the system.
It's much faster now.
I had some errors with iDisk in Finder.
After adding my info to the .Mac Preference and iDisk,it would show my disk space on the eMac as only 7 gigs!
Literally showing the iDisk space in place of the real disk space.
