The picture is of me and my daughter and her adopted horse Levi. Allison has an intense interest in horses and Hanson. Visit her web page and get an eyeful of Hanson. But horses are her real love now. Levi is now boarded at a LoveQuest, a handicapped riding stable, where he works. Allison goes up there every Saturday before her normal horse-back riding lesson to see and work with him. Levi is an Appaloosa with black and white leopard coloring. Appaloosa is his breed and leopard is, well, his coloring.
I haven't had a serious vacation in too many years. So this year, we took the plunge and went to England. In my normal style, I prepared to take it on the cuff. I found out as much as I could beforehand and decided nothing. Each day was an adventure. A bit of stress too, but it was worth it. We had a great time. We packed as light as we could and took off. We stayed with a computer geek not unlike myself in York. He was the first bed and breakfast in York on the internet and I somehow stumbled into his place. If you're looking for a place in York you can find him at the Heworth Guest House. Although this may seem an overt commercial for his place it is really only a way to get another link on this page about our trip without having to use up my disk space.
Here Alli is showing us the real reason I took her along. She is carrying
every piece of baggage that we brought with us. I am not known to plan things down to the
last detail. So, this means I can't be dragging along every known aid to the comfortable
tourist. We had some exciting moments but all in all it was a most memorable trip. We now
know the tube and Brit Rail much more intimately than many people care to. We also got to
stay with some of the nicest people that desperate last minute searching for international
contacts can realize. I recommend it to anyone.
When you travel in England it's hard to turn around without finding a castle.
I think we saw dozens in various stages of deterioration. From nothing left but a
wall on a lonely countryside to Warwick castle, which you can see here. Warwick castle had
lots of fun for kids and adults. It had beautiful grounds and lots of history and was in
immaculate condition compared to most castles.. See that hole about 3/4 of the way up the
building, too small to be a window, too big for an archery opening. That's the public
toilet. Great sport when the castle was under siege. The woman in the lower left is Sheena
the Jungle Woman of American Gladiator fame. We just happened to be there on the day they
were there shooting to get some side-shots for their future shows. It seems the show is
moving from the US to England. We took some time to talk with her and found her to
be smart and very friendly as well as well muscled. She is on the S African team and
convinced me that they take this show quite seriously but not so seriously that they can't
enjoy it. It was quite a nice day with a touch of excitement.
Here are some of the beautiful places we walked in Wales. It was a wonderful trip. The last few days when we just walked and pony-trekked the beaches and cliffs were our most memorable. These pictures are of the Pembrokshire National Park just north of Tenby. You can see the overcast nature of England in these pictures. I have to say that there is much beauty in the overcast. Maybe we look too much to the sunny days. We fail to see what anything that's not light and beautiful has to offer. The world is a balance of all things and all things have something to offer us.
That's me on the cliff. This is a
magical place. I enjoy water more than most things. Even as a child in diapers, I
understand that a rainstorm was something that I would crawl towards to watch. The
lightning and thunder didn't scare me. The water entranced me. So I climbed up here to the
highest point on the cliff and just looked out over the water for awhile. Alli caught me
on the camera.
Allison walking the surf, looking
towards the cliffs in the picture above. She doesn't like me taking her picture that much
but I try to ignore her because I don't take enough pictures as it is. We collected stones
and shells and other funny things we found on the shore. The beaches in Wales are
beautiful although in places you could still see remnants of a huge oil tanker spill that
had happened a few years ago. The contrast between the destruction that humans can achieve
and the natural beauty is awesome.
