Black Walnut and Oatmeal Cookies

Makes 3 dozen.

Beat butter, add sugars and beat until light; add egg and vanilla and mix.

• 1 ¼ cups butter (2 ½ sticks)
• ¾ cup brown sugar
• ½ cup sugar
• 1 egg
• 1 tsp. vanilla

Combine flour, soda, salt and spices and sift.

• 1 ½ cups flour
• 1 tsp. baking soda
• ¾ tsp. salt
• 1 ¼ tsp. cinnamon
• ¼ tsp. nutmeg

Stir flour mixture and other ingredients into batter. Spoon onto a cookie sheet.

• 3 cups oatmeal
• 2 cups coarsely broken black walnuts
• (½ cup raisins or chocolate chips)

Bake at 350° for 10 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool a few minutes before moving to a rack.
