Makes 2 doz. cookies
Cream butter and cream cheese adding the sugar slowly. Blend in the flour. Wrap in 2 pieces and chill for 1 hour. Roll 1/8 inch thick and cut with 2 " heart shaped cutter.
Beat egg and water to make egg wash.
Put scant ¼ tsp. each almond paste and preserves in the center of one cookie, put wash along edges, cover with a second cookie and press to seal. Brush the top of the cookie with the wash and sprinkle with coarse or pearl sugar.
Bake at 375° F oven for 10 to 12 minutes. Cool on rack.
