Given under my hand at the Auditor's Office, Richmond, this <22nd> day of 183<9.> Auditor Image can be viewed on the Library of Virginia website: http://lvaimage.lib.va.us/Microfilm/Revolution/RR/008/00299.tif State of Virginia Charlotte Co. to wit: I do hereby certify, that I was well acquainted with Lewellen Jones, deceased, late of Campbell County, Virginia, in the war of the Revolution, and recollect distinctly that in the lasly? part of the year, 1776, he enlisted in Charlotte County, where he then lived, under Capt John Brent as a Regular Soldier for the term of three years, and was attached to the 4th Virginia Regiment on continental establishment, commanded by Colonel Lawson and General Stevens- He was engaged in several battles to the North, and served the said term faithfully, and was regularly discharged from service- These facts come within my personal knowledge being with him the whole time- I am in the 80th year of my age- and was a soldier of the Revolution. William P. Hamlett Virginia Charlotte Co. to wit: This day Wm. P. Hamlett, came before me a Justice of the Peace in the county aforesaid, and made oath that the above certificate subscribed by him in my presence, contained the truth to the best of his knowledge and recollection.
