Cincinnati, OhioDear :
Today I received some awful hate literature on my doorstep and I'm wondering if you also received it. My values and beliefs will not allow me to remain silent in the face of the hateful, divisive attitudes it contained. Because I thought you might feel the same way as I do, I want to share a plan I have with you.
First, I will be sending a donation of $xx to (name of organization here). This organization has a long history of working towards cooperation and understanding between people of all races and creeds. I believe the work they are doing can help people to stand together to resist this kind of hatred and to build stronger communities that value all people as brothers and sisters. I do not believe that these kinds of hateful lies will change the hearts and minds of good people who believe peaceful co-existence is a basic right for all.
Second, I will send a letter to the organization that left their literature, telling them that because of their action, I have made an equal but opposite reaction, in the hope of canceling out the hate they are trying to spread.
Third, I will let GAPP, Greater Anderson Promotes Peace know what I have done. This organization was formed to respond to this kind of hate activity in our community. GAPP is monitoring this hate group activity and helping neighborhoods respond in positive, pro-active ways like this. GAPP's voice mail number is 588-8391.
Will you join me in supporting peaceful relationships in our neighborhood and community?. I have enclosed a list of organizations to which you can donate. If you can help, please make a donation to one of the groups or another one of your choice and let this hate group know that their literature has inspired you to act.
Thank you for taking the time to think on this important subject. Please call me at (your phone number) if you would like to talk together about this neighborhood response.
Sincerely,
Name
