PFIRRMANN, Aly; Co-founder of Art
Stamping Inc. in Woodlawn, died Tuesday at Jewish Hospital. (1991)
He was 88. Mr. Pfirrmann lived by the philosophy that nothing in
life was more important than learning. He spent his life dedicated
to learning his craft of tool and die-making. He was born on July
29, 1902 in Pirmasins, Germany. In 1929, with $200 in his pocket,
he immigrated to New York looking for better job opportunities in the engineering
field. He moved to Cincinnati in 1935, settling in Mount Airy and
working for various machine tool firms. In 1943, Mr. Pfirrmann bought
a chemical process to blacken steel from Hamilton Tool Co. and started
a business called the Penetrate Co., now known as Black Oxide. In
1946, he added a die shop. By 1948, the company had grown so rapidly
that he sold Penetrate to foster the tool-and-die side of the company,
now known as Art Stamping. He retired in 1971. Mr. Pfirrmann
had a passion for pinochle, said his son, Frederick, of Cincinnati.
“He and his friends would play until all hours of the morning.” Mr.
