Grandfatherly pitch taken to higher level.

The most consistent grandfather spiel may well be the continuing promotional saga for Storck USA's Werther's Original, a line of butter candies that has become the top-selling bagged seller in this country.

Chicago-based Storck is taking its grandfather pitch to another level with a "Grandfather of the Year Grand Photo Contest."

In a multi-phased promotion Werther's will be running a full-page ad seeking photos of Grandads enjoying a very special moment with their grandkids.

Winner of the best photo will win $10,000 and a family portrait by a top professional.

"We think this promotion makes sense," says Richard R. Harshman, chief executive of Storck USA.
