What it is like Today

Today I am a happier, healthier person. Thanks to my Higher Power and Al-Anon I have handled situations that would have driven me crazy earlier. Humor has been found in strange places, and I lived through the teenage years of 5 girls, three of which became pregnant. One placed for adoption, one kept the baby, and one got married. Try to pull off a formal wedding on 2 1/2 weeks notice. It is impossible to know what that is like til you have been there!

My sponsor is also my best woman friend. We plan on going to the Al-Anon convention in Utah this year, just us females. We are both really looking forward to that one.

I sponsor, and go by the book. I don't think I am a mean sponsor, but a realistic one. I have learned a lot from the people I sponsor, they are a true blessing to me..

My marriage is the best, and my husband is my best friend. I know that my Higher Power had a hand in it. I was looking for an active alcoholic, not one in recovery! Given my track record, I should have been married at least 3 or 4 more times to someone who was as sick as I was.

I think God said, "Brenda, take off the halo, it doesn't belong on you. I know you have this thing for drunks, so I am going to oblige you. But we are going to do it my way this time. Just listen, and you won't regret it."

I had always sworn that I would never marry an alcoholic, or someone whose name was Larry, or someone who was bald, or someone who had dentures.

Funny thing is, he has, and is,  three of these four things. Who says God doesn't have a sense of humor?
