MARC & KIP of  THE PODS - 1991
"East Coast Kicks" borrowed from The Slickee Boys, to whom often compared, got retitled slightly as the TITLE CUT, but still got the 2nd track slot, following flagship band, The Surfaholics... There was still a Pods band cranking out beautiful music but weren't quite a surf band anymore by the time of this 1996 CD. Songs were taped in late '90 and early '91, in their downtown Cincinnati practice space, a true Chickenshack Studio effort! Pixler  got hold of the all-surf "Son Of Kultur" where these two tunes first appeared. That's how Pods got on this Surf CD from Ohio. It was the only official release from the great lineup of '90-'91, with Marc and Kip, later of Fake Brain, and Roundhead, respectively. It is Marc's first CD appearance, odd considering he is one of the best drummers walking the planet. Of course, he now has bunches o' CD's out. The Pods' remnants were to headline the CD release in Cleveland but could not get it together in time for the show, and ultimately could not get it together, period! By the time this CD came out The Pods had gone folk, gotten somber or something. Surf-pop seemed a distant memory as evolution had its merry way with The Pods.

Brilliant set of 'Surf' instrumentals. Very classy stuff - well recorded and played. Lots of twangy, 'bendy'
         guitar sounds. Wonderful!

When Jimi Hendrix spoke the words "You will never hear surf music again", little did he know that a few
decades later he would be proven wrong. Today, surf music and instrumental music are back in a big way. It
is heard in movie soundtracks and in radio and television ads. The spaghetti western and spy soundtrack is
back, as is the hot rod and motorcycle style.
Instrumental music came back very strongly in 1994, and in 1997 we are still riding high on a wave of
instrumental bliss that has circled the globe. It has spawned an entire new generation of instrumental bands
and brought back many of the original bands from the early sixties back into the limelight.
This CD is an exciting, fun filled blend of all of the above styles with so many great bands that it would
take a book just to complete the information on their bios.
'NORTHCOAST KICKS' is truly one of the biggest and best CD compilations featuring new and original
instrumentals. So, no matter what the weather, get ready to rock, because the 'NORTHCOAST KICKS'!
