A 1974 family history of John Hines and Mary Mackey Hines was written by Mary Teaser Pytleski of Martin County MN. She mentions that John and Mary were born in Ireland. John imigrated to New Brunswick, Canada in about 1834. In about 1837 he moved to Wisconsin, where we believed he farmed in Dane and Juneau County WI. He and his family are listed in the 1860 Juneau County Census as living on a farm in Lemonweir township. He and Mary were listed as illiterate,. Their farm and personal property were valued at $420.
In about 1867 he moved to Owatonna MN, and a year later the family moved to Pleasant Prairie Township, Martin County, MN. Mary and John had about 8 children: Mary Hines Hayden (1842-1914), Catherine Hines Walker, Mrs. W.A. Cool, Thomas Hines (b about 1850), Edward Hines (born about 1857), John O. Hines (about 1858-1932), James Francis Hines (1864-1935), and William A. Hines (b 1859). I do not know where or when John and Mary died, but I suspect Mary may have died in Superior, Douglas County WI.
