I couldn't help notice that 9/18/01, one week after the WTC/DC attacks, a new book of poetry by Rumi (born, guess where?) was published. "Masculinity has a core of clarity, which does not act from anger or greed or sensuality, and a husk, which does." (Rumi, tr. Coleman Barks, 2001)![]()

Now on with our regular programming...
Gary Craig has put together an exciting approach to personal change and growth he calls "Emotional Freedom Techniques" or simply EFT. The system is a distillation of the pioneering work of Roger Callahan, PhD, which combines accessing emotionally charged issues with activating various acupressure points. While it is difficult to validate "balancing the energy system" with western scientific methods, the results anecdotally reported and behaviorally demonstrated are very impressive. Folks are self-reporting success in resolving even longstanding emotional trauma and addictive behaviors. Check out Gary's site or see my case study. More detailed instruction is available in Garry Flint's book Emotional Freedom.
Garry Flint has also proposed a model he calls process healing. Garry explains how to collaborate with the subconscious to generate positive change automatically.
Two friends and I linked up through this medium to discuss relationships, communication and change. Drop in on our conversations.
Other ideas I'm currently exploring:
Problem? Lighten up! Try a little therapeutic juggling. I must give credit to Nelson Zink, The Structure of Delight, for this one. Psst! Delight is an experiential intro to Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP).
Riane Eisler is one of the seminal thinkers or our time. Find out how she views a partnership society in contrast to our dominator culture.
The American Psychological Association has decided authors should not publish articles on the net. Sorry, APA. See my EMDR case study.
For a decision-making strategy geared toward conflict resolution, check out away to "agree." It's from a project in '94: Talk, Listen, Decide. Let me know how it works for you. E-me.
Up the creek without a paddle? It's your boat, your river. Perhaps I can help you find the eddies, or help you paddle through the rough spots. I'm currently an outpatient therapist at a community agency as well as a private practice. I have an M.Ed. (Counseling), and a year post-masters clinical program. I'm formally trained in NLP, Gestalt therapy, and EMDR. I worked from '92-'96 assisting folks with severe mental disorders re-enter the work force; since '98, I've focused on helping people go beyond their trauma-based past. I've developed a specialty treating children and adolescents with sexual behavior problems and children, adolescents and adults dealing with posttraumatic stress. My current research interest is correlating Piagetian and Kohlbergian developmental stages, and their application to treatment; and, brief, effective treatments such as EMDR.
