| How
sad it was to see Back to Back Promotions get their foot in the
door and replace Rotroff's "Cavalcade of Thrills" at the
Warren County Derbies. Back to Back is |
| EVERYWHERE.
And while they brought a lot of cars to Saturday's derby, the action was
not all that good although their announcer acted as though it was the absolute |
| best
event he'd ever attended - regularly shouting, "WOW!" and "WHAT A HIT!"
so many times that it bacame annoying and detracted from the derbies themselves. |
| They
finally got one off on time, but it was led by a far too long (40 minute
+) Lawn Mower heat that preceded the drivers' meeting! Qualifying
SEVEN cars in each full-size |
| division
is unheard of and confusing. With that many qualifiers, a consolation
heat should've been out of the question, but they attempted one anyway
only to have it |
| cancelled
when only 3 vehicles returned to the track. A 3-car modified heat
followed which was over practically before it got started, then another
pause prior to The Finals. |
| The
competition area was poorly lit, and an ambulance parked so close that
it blocked the view of an entire corner from the bleachers where fans arrived
hours prior to the. |
| scheduled
starting time in order to get a good seat. All things considered
(7 car qualifiers; never-ending mower heat; delay caused by out of place
drivers' meeting; consy; |
| obscured
view; loud, irritating announcer talking up the promotion while selling
fake excitement), this was the most displeasing big-field derby in recent
memory outside of |
| Butler
County! Rotroff
brought some variety to the local derby scene.
With Back to Back now running their same ol' show in Lebanon, what's
the point in going? |
