Six riverboats participated in TALL STACKS '99

which for one reason or another didn't make return

trips in '03 or '06. Most noticeable by her absence

and pictured at right - the grand American Queen.

(She had a previously booked engagement in '03.)

Sights of Tall Stacks 1999

One of the highlights of TALL STACKS '99 occurred

when the Mississippi Queen, American Queen, and

Delta Queen were in town simultaneously participating

in a full day's worth of TALL STACKS festivities.

Pictured at right, "the Three Queens" docked at the

public landing. The Cincinnati skyline featuring historic

Riverfront Stadium (now demolished and replaced by

Great American Ball Park) is in the background.

Mississippi Queen, American Queen, Delta Queen

Belle of Louisville

Her engines chugged, smoke poured forth from her "tall

stacks" and for five days the waters of the mighty Ohio

were churned by her spectacular paddlewheel. She's the

last original. working Mississippi-River style steamboat

in the world and a National Historic Landmark. Built in

1914, no other steamer in American history has been to

as many places as she. Truly one of a kind, her calliope

music entertained visitors nearly non-stop. 1999 marked

her fourth consecutive TALL STACKS appearance,

and as expected The Belle of Louisville stole the show.

Mississippi Queen

As TALL STACKS '99 comes to a close

and night falls over the city, the peaceful

waters of the Ohio River reflect the image

of the magnificent Mississippi Queen.

The five boats depicted here

originnally participated in

TALL STACKS '95, but for

various reasons weren't a part of

the 1999, 2003, or '06 events.
