The story revolves around a young teenage girl Novalee Nation (Natalie Portman) whose destiny plays a very ugly game with her. At the age of seventeen she is pregnant with a child and adds to the worse condition her boyfriend Willy Jack (Dylan Bruno) ditches her in a Wal Mart store and leaves her all alone. She feels miserable as she is left with no money and no family. Her only family and hope was her boyfriend. She ultimately hides in the store and survives with the store food. Finally after six weeks she gives birth to a baby. Soon they become famous. The story progresses as she encounters new women Thelma (Stockard Channing) and Lexie Coop (Ashley Judd) and learns different aspects of life. She finally comes out in life as a more confident woman both personally and professionally.
