For the first time since I have been a fan,
BHTM came to my place of residence (Salt Lake City)
and put on, undoubtedly, the best show I have ever seen. The set-list was
perfect. Gaining the interest of those who don't know BHTM by opening with
Resignation Superman, and appealing to the long time fans with City on
Fire and Midnight Radio (not on the Band's original set list). They encored
with Turn the Light Out, Vincent/Leaving Song and finished up with Boom
Boom. Afterwards, we spoke with Todd, and he reassured me that Midnight
Radio was not on the set list, but played due to the request of a few zealous
fans, namely us. :) We left shortly after to go to a local bar, soon to
be joined by the members of Leftover Salmon (who played before BHTM) a
few of BHTM's road crew, and Brian Nevin. We had a few drinks and chatted
with them until the bar closed. It was loads of fun... Those guys are a
treat to hang out with. Cheers...

I just got back from St.
Pat's Block Party in Chicago. Great Show.
The two openers (Marty Lloyd Band, David Mead)
were fun. I enjoyed them more than last year's openers. I would have reversed
the order. David Mead was pretty mellow. He did a great cover of Baby,
I'm Amazed. Marty Lloyd Band (ex members of Freddy Jones Band and Bodeans)
were more lively, more like Hootie and the Blowfish.
BHTM came on at about 9 PM, and they played til
10:30+. If I remember correctly, they opened with Vincent of Jersey/Leaving
Song (kind of surprising), then into Boom Boom. I don't remember the order
of the rest of the show, but I think I got most of the songs: Hysteria
(new song), Circle, Secret Mission (great new song), Moose Song (yeaa),
Kensington Line, Resignation Superman, Please, Turn the Light Out, Broken
Hearted Savior, Its Alright, Soul for Every Cowboy (maybe, not sure), Custard
Pie (Zep cover) and they ended with Bittersweet. The encore was Again and
Again and Forever Man (Clapton cover). I agree, Todd's version of Forever
Man is amazing!
I was up front and there seemed to be a huge
crowd. The St. Pat's people said the show had sold out. It was hot and
humid, and sweat seemed to be stinging Todd's eyes through out the show.
His maroon satin cowboy shirt was soaked. But the crowd was still energetic
and enthusiastic. A couple of female fans even made it up on stage during
the show, to be led away by Jeff. Kind of funny, once the fans got up there,
they didn't seem to know what to do next.
There seemed to be a problem with Todd's guitar
during the first song, and his mic seemed to be going in and out, but it
was cleared up by the second song. The rest of the show solid and strong.
Rob made a joke that for the past few years,
every time they came to Chicago, they promised the new album would be out
soon. But he said that they were headed into the studio in August, and
they would definitely have a new album out (soon). All in all, a great
show.
