The Middletown Pacemakers was the brain
child of Harold "Mike" Michael, who after closing down his oval track
operation, built a Hot Rod for street use. After reading articles in
Hot Rod Magazine about organizing Hot Rod clubs that would meet for
shows & gatherings, he contacted others about the idea, and with
the interest from other Hot Rodders, racing acquaintances and some
fellow businessmen, the Middletown Pacemakers was born. One of those
early members was Wilbur "Robbie" Roberson, a native Kentuckian, who
relocated in Middletown, Ohio after returning from duty in World War
II. The Book "Middletown
Pacemakers, The Story of an Ohio Hot Rod Club" is authored by Ron
Roberson, whose dad "Robbie" and grandfather were founding members of
the Club. The Club competed locally at Beechmont Dragway, Thorn Hill
Dragway, Edgewater Sports Park, as well as traveled to National NHRA
events. The Club also put on car shows at places like LeSourdsville
Lake Amusement Park.
