If your certification has been current within the last two years you can still renew. Contact: To receive application and or info. This exam is held in Columbus, twice a year. CORONAL POLISHING TASK FORCE APPOINTED The Ohio State Dental Board made request of the Ohio Dental Hygienists Association, the Ohio Dental Association and the Ohio Dental Assistants Association that they send representatives to determine if the delegation of coronal polishing by dental assistants can be accomplished. Presently the rules allow the board to promulgate the rules for the delegation to certified assistants that have completed specifically designed courses, but the law has limitations that do not. If the Ohio legislature is willing to revisit the statute the rules and guidelines for coronal polishing delegation will have been formed by all of the groups that have concerns. The task force members have met two times as of this writing, and feel that one final meeting will meet their objectives. The first meeting reviewed the term "accretions" and an addeptable definition. That huge hurdle having been met, they began reviewing course objectives, and prerequisites. Course objectives were obtained from current coronal polishing courses given by the American Dental Assistants Association, OSU, Choffin Career Center, and objectives existing in California anf Florida. These objectives were reviewed, refined, combined, deleted and added to until all were satisfied with the content. The second meeting held January 17, 2001, finalized those objectives, and discussed changes in the current statute that would allow the ruses inclusion into the administrative codes. Standardized testing, as a method of knowledge assessment is also a duty of the task force, and has progressed to a sub committee that is designing questions geared to the learning objectives agreed upon by the task force appointees. These questions and educator requirements are also yet to be reviewed. Many things have to occur before these agreements can allow legal delegation of coronal polishing to certified assistants. A legislator must propose a change in the law. It must pas the House and the Senate. The rules muss pass the Joint Committee on Agency Rule Review and the public hearing. Only assistants certified by DANB or the Ohio Commission on Dental Assistant Certification will be allowed to apply to take the course and must pass bothe the course and a written test ODAA has been well represented by Kim Arny, CDA, Barbara Hickey, COA, Michelle Johnson, CDA, and Paula Oliver, CDA
