OCTOBER 24, 1999
It is our understanding that there are new laws governing Dental Hygienists (RDH) in the state of Ohio. In the past a hygienist was not permitted to practice unless a dentist was present in the building.  That has changed.  The new ruling states:

"Permissible practices without the dentist present....".  This permits the hygienist to treat clients of record when the dentist is not in the office.  The criteria states routine care performed by a licensed hygienist with a minimum of 3 yrs. full-time experience and treatment to continue for no more than 3 weeks without the dentist.  The RDHs have to take a mandatory 4 hr. CE on medical emergencies if they want to practice in this manner.
