Clutch Accumulator VFAQ

Main Page

You may have seen the stainless steel clutch line which RRE and other vendors are selling. I did install one with my ACT 2600, and it does help make the clutch more direct acting. Its a litle like when you took out the clutch restrictor by the slave cylinder.

Since I have a spare transmission, I cut apart the clutch accumulator to see if I was defeating any other hidden flow restrictors.

{short description of image} This is the complete clutch accumulator from my '95 AWd with 80k miles.
cylinder cut open After cutting apart the cylinder, we see that it is just a simple accumulator. While its harder to see in this pic, the accumulator is just apipe with two end pipes welded on.

I went through about 3 super cut off wheels with my dremel knock off during the research shown on this page.
no funny valves The block at the top looked suspicious, like it might hold a flow restricto. So i cut off part of that.
upper block cut open more I still didn't trust the hole I saw, so I opened it up some more. It really is just a hole. The ID is about the same as the fittings in the stock parts.
the clutch accumulator taking a piss Before cutting the thing apart, i checked to see if there were any flow restrictions. (This is hard to take a pic of, because digital cameras have so much lag.)
DSM blacklung This was a brand new cheapy filter. I highly recommend using a filter when cutting and grinding. Unlike the trim work I did on my RSR and turbo install, this time I wasn't blowing and hacking black snot for four days. You have been warned.

Full size and resolution versions of any of the photos on this site are available. I've spent quite a bit of time shrinking them down for fast loading. If you, like me, prefer the 2.1 megapixel versions, email me at tdlenser@fuse.net
