Don't worry, it's not another cosmetic fixing wannabe page. This is strictly a performance oriented page. All modifications and improvements are done as a matter of functionality and good taste (I'm not an art director with a point-less title). So, no "Rice Boy" here.
If you are like me, a die-hard Civic fan bitten by the performance bug, this page is for you. It's devoted to people like us, who push the naturally aspirated Civic to its limit, while still maintaining its reliable daily commuting characteristics.
It all started when my trusty CRX Si bit the dust after 10 years of flawless performance. Desperate for transportation and under budget constraints, I bought a 95 Civic EX coupe. Like it's predecessor, the fifth generation Civic didn't inherit the JDM counterpart's DOHC motor. Instead the modest SOHC was in place. Still, I was dazzled by Honda's VTEC power plant and seemed like a practical choice at the time. Later, even with an upgrade attempt of aftermarket bolt-ons, the insufficient power topped out quickly. Knowing the limitations and reliability issue of putting stock engine through stress. I decided the only logical step was to swap with a more capable DOHC VTEC B-series motor.
Years of CRX experience had given me good working base of knowledge about Honda engines. And having helpful Internet sites like Adrian and Joe's Hybrid Page, Eric Bauer's B16A resource site, and Frank Lin's Powered by Honde as my technical consultants, Jerome at Shofast, Gil at Place Racing and Ferman Acura for hybrid parts, really ensured my commitment to the project. I was able to find an used JDM B16A and started hand tuning it to its "Pure Sport" form.By installed Type R valvetrans and making a few other modifications. I was destine to take my car to its fullest potential without having to sacrifice much of comfort and practicality. In another words, form will co-exist with function. In reality, my Civic will never be like the race tuned "Civic Type R". But It'll sure out-perform the new Si coupe and most cars in its class, making my EG Coupe something to be reckoned with.
