Mason's first area fire department was organized as the Mason Volunteer Fire
Company.  Founded in the 1800's, it was chartered in 1948. It's purpose was
to protect the village and surrounding areas.

The Company was disbanded in 1995 and the Deerfield Township Trustees
and Mason City Council formed the Mason/Deerfield Joint Fire District to
protect the residents of Mason and Deerfield Township.

Effective September 30, 1998 the Joint Fire District was disbanded due
to political squabbling.   Mason and Deerfield are now funding
their own separate fire departments.

The City of Mason's new Fire Department,
will continue to serve the citizens and visitors, 24 hrs a day, 365 days
a year.  Mason's "Commitment to Excellence in Public Service" is
showing in the new  Fire - Rescue Department.
