Safety Tips for Your Kitchen
1.
Turn pot handles to the center of the stove to prevent children
from pulling them off.
2.
To prevent clothes from catching fire, don't wear loose fitting
garments around open flames.
3.
Make sure that your hands are dry before plugging or
unplugging electrical appliances.
4.
Check to make sure that your coffee maker is off!
Electrtical Safety
1.
Do not overload circuits.
2.
Avoid using extension cords or multi-plug adapters.
3.
If you have to use an extension cord, purchase one with a
surge protector or circuit breaker in it.
4.
Use safety plugs for outlets that are within reach of
small children.
5.
Do not leave appliances on while away from home,
i.e. dryer, oven or dishwasher.
Storage Tips
1.
Make sure that flammable liquids like gasoline are
stored in approved containers and try to limit
the quantity to 5 gallons.
2.
Do not store combustibles next to the electric
panel, furnace or dryer.
3.
Make sure all exits from your house are unobstructed.
Smoke & CO Detectors
1.
Change the batteries in the spring and fall, when the
time changes.
2.
Check smoke detectors once a week by using
the test button.
3.
Make sure that all the levels of your home have at least
one smoke detector, especially around the
sleeping areas.
4.
If your home is equipped with gas appliances, install a
Carbon Monoxide detector in the same room as
the appliance, and by the sleeping area.
Smoke and Carbon Monoxide detectors are offered free to
families who can not afford to purchase one. These are
contributed by the American Red Cross and distributed by
the City of Mason Fire Department. If you are a City of
Mason resident and need a detector, please contact Fire
Marshal Jamie Osborne or Fire Marshal Dyana Garland
