JOIN THE FINNEYTOWN MUSIC PARENTS ASSOCIATION!

If you are not a member of this very important group, please be looking for the most current newsletter in your mailboxes.  Inside that very informative document will be a registration form for becoming a member of this very vital organization.  FMPA meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month during the school year, and it supports our music programs financially as well as through a variety of parent volunteer roles.

UPCOMING EVENTS

2006-2007 CALENDAR COMING SOON…

ABOUT OUR PROGRAM

As of the 2006-2007 school year, there are 7 choral ensembles on campus.  Middle school ensembles include the 7th/8th Grade Boys Chorus, the 7th/8th Grade Girls Chorus, and the X-Period Chorus, a mixed chorus that meets two days a week before you for students involved in band or orchestra who cannot take choir during the regular school day.  X-Period chorus is also open to daytime chorus members who accept the responsibility of being a part of a second ensemble.

The high school choruses this year feature the Freshman Chorus, a non-auditioned mixed chorus; the Concert Choir, a non-auditioned mixed chorus for upper-classmen; Select Women’s Chorus, an auditioned ensemble for sophomore, junior, and senior women; and Chorale, an auditioned mixed chorus that performs advanced choral literature of various styles.

Students in the choral program comprise approximately 30% of the secondary campus student body.

STAFF

Jason McKee is entering his 5th year as choral director at Finneytown.  Groups under his direction have consistently received Superior and Excellent ratings at OMEA district and state contest.  Mr. McKee also serves as vocal director for the high school’s annual musical production.  He is a member of the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) and the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA).

Brenda Hartman is entering her 3rd year as staff accompanist at Finneytown.  Mrs. Hartman accompanies all choral concerts at Finneytown and frequently accompanies students at OMEA solo & ensemble contests.  Mrs. Hartman also directs the Vocal Jazz Ensemble at Finneytown, an auditioned mixed ensemble that meets one day a week after school during various parts of the school year.

Richard Canter is director of bands at Finneytown.  This year we are pleased to announce that Mr. Canter will be co-directing the freshman chorus with Mr. McKee.  He helped with the preparation of the freshman chorus during the 2005-2006 school year, but this year marks his first formal year as co-director.
