Events Involving the Monument
The Butler County Soldiers,
Sailors & Pioneers Monument is a focal point for the community's
annual commemorations of Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Veterans Day.
Memorial Day activities
include:
- the pre-Memorial Day flagging
of veterans' graves throughout Butler County by local Boy Scout
and Girl Scout troops and individual veterans and friends
- a church service commemorating Butler County veterans on the Sunday prior to Memorial Day, hosted
on a rotating basis by local congregations
- the Memorial
Day Parade, starting at the Monument at 10am and proceeding east on High Street and north
on Tenth Street to Greenwood Cemetery
- a Memorial Day Service held at the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) lot in Greenwood Cemetery at 11am
- a Memorial Day Service held at Rose Hill Cemetery at 2pm
Independence Day
activities, organized by the Bells on Independence Day Committee, include:
- the Annual
Bells on Independence Day Parade in downtown Hamilton!
- the Taste of Hamilton!, sponsored by area restaurants, around Courthouse Square
- a high school band
competition
- fireworks over
the Great Miami River, at the Columbia Bridge
Veterans Day activities,
organized through the Butler County Veterans Association, include:
- a Veterans Day Service held at 11am
