HOW TO PURCHASE ORDERS OF BATTLE

  • I know it sounds strange, but with e-mail, people forget. I need a mailing address because everything is mailed to you.

    ORDERING ORDER OF BATTLE PRINTOUTS
  • When you order please be sure to put down both the file number and the complete OB title, especially the date. Material is printed out by file number. The title is necessary if I am to resolve problems when the computer tells me a file number is bad.

  • If your handwriting is not clear, errors can result in the filling of your orders. Use only capital letters when you fill in the file number. These errors can be eliminated by downloading the catalogs and editing a copy to list only what you want. Also, to facilitate our filling your order, please try to keep the files you order in the order in which they appear in the catalog.

PRICING OF ORDER OF BATTLE PRINTOUTS

This DOES NOT APPLY to books, only to computer printouts.

The cost of any OB is $0.25 per page and, in the case of a multi-page OB, the last page is $0.10. This is because the last page can vary from 55 typed lines to as little as one or two lines. Due to the for 1995 postage rate increase, orders under $20, please include 10% for postage (US only - postage on Canadian and foreign orders is covered below.

    The minimum order is $5.00.

For larger OB orders there are quantity discounts, but this table applies only on the OB's (book discounts are lower down). They are:

    Total Order--------Discount

    $40.00 or more ------------5%

    $80.00 or more ------------10%

    $120.00 or more ------------12%

If you ask me to calculate the cost of your OB order, because I have to do the calculations twice, I will charge a flat $0.25 per page and there are no quantity discounts.

NOTE ON SHIPPING & SHIPPING COSTS FOR BOOKS

    :

The rates in the following table are for shipment within the US only and everything goes "Book Rate". For all overseas shipments, if you pay with a credit card, the exact cost of the postage will be charged in a second posting to your credit card. If you want to pay by some other method, estimates can be obtained on the shipping costs. You must indicate if you want your books shipped by surface mail or airmail. If no indication is given, I will AUTOMATICALLY ship overseas orders by airmail, which takes about 6-7 days to western Europe and about 10 to Australia/New Zealand/Far East.

Ordering 1 book for shipment in the US only - $2.50 S&H

For second book add $2.00 S&H (total $4.50) (US Only)

For third and each further book, add $1.00 (US only)

One note, the Glantz books are substantialy larger, and because of their larger size, have a different shipping structure listed on that page.

For shipments to Canada and all other countries, postage can only be determined upon time of shipment. If you want to pay with other than a credit card, you're going to have to write and get an estimate before we ship.

    SHIPMENT AND INSURANCE

  • Inside the Continental US everything is shipped Media Rate, i.e. as cheaply as possible.
  • If you want it faster, you must ask for it and you'll be asked to pay the additional postage.
  • All shipments, US and overseas, retail and wholesale, are shipped FOB West Chester, OH, which means when it hits the mail box it's yours. If you want insurance, you've got to ask for it.
  • Smaller of orders books are shipped in heavy, padded envelops. Large ones get boxes. OBs are shipped in a 8"X11" envelop up to the $15 range, over than, they can go in padded envelopes and, if big enough, they go in boxes.
  • When something dissappears in the mails I will provide you with the insurance information, but I will not replace anything for free because the post office lost it. You must go through a repurchase and file the claim with the post office to recover the missing books or insurance payment.

    Insured Value------Total Cost

    $1-50.00 ------------$1.10

    $50.01-100 ----------$2.10

    $100.01-200----------$3.10

    $200.01-300----------$4.10

    $300.01-400----------$5.10

and $1 more for every $100 of insured value thereafter)

    CANADIAN AND OVERSEAS SHIPMENTS
  • If you are ordering orders of battle printouts and/or books with a credit card, you will be charged the exact amount of the postage based on the type of shipment you specify.

  • If you don't specify the type of shipment, it will go by airmail.

  • If you want insurance, ask for it. I'll pack the material well enough, but if it dissappears in the mail or arrives damaged and you didn't ask for insurance I accept no liability.

    PAYMENTS

  • Ohio residents please add appropriate sales tax for hyour area 6.5-8.0%.

    CHECKS
  • US orders only: If paying by check, make your check out to The Nafziger Collection, Inc.
  • Canadian orders must be in $US against a US bank or in the form of a Canadian Postal Money order in $US.
     3p3
  • Checks from outside North America payment must be in $US against a US bank, with a US address on the check.
  • EUROCHECKS are not accepted.
  • INTERNATIONAL POSTAL MONEY ORDERS are not acceptable.

    CREDIT CARD NUMBERS & ADDRESSES:
  • I DO NOT KEEP EITHER YOUR CREDIT CARD NUMBERS ON FILE OR E-MAIL/SNAIL MAIL ADDRESSES. Please include that information on any correspondence when it might be necessary. Even if it is your 100th order, I'm not going to have that data, so send it! I do this for your security. Not only so you won't be spammed because of your doing business with me, but so that your credit card information is not accessible to anyone should they get access to my computer.

  • To process a credit card I must have the following data: Name on the card, card number, expiration date, & mailing address where the bill is sent if different than the shipping address.
  • Security concerns: I've never had any tell me their credit card number got out after sending it to me via e-mail, but if you aren't comfortable sending it in an e-mail, you can either mail the information to me or call me at 513-777-8734. If you call and leave the data on the answering machine, please speak slowly and give the card numbers and expiration date twice.
  • MINIMUM ORDERS ON CREDIT CARDS: the credit card company hates processing orders under $5. If I have to charge you separately for postage because you're overseas, the minimum postage charge will be $5 or if the order is really small, I'll use my best judgment as to the probable postage and add that into the initial charge. Oh, the postage charges are not linear. My experience is that a $5 OB order to New Zealand is going to cost about $4 in postage.

    QUALITY OF THE OB'S

The quality of the OB's does vary. Before 1792 many OB's are simply a list of units present and usually reflect the administrative organization. After 1792 nearly all OBs contain the administrative details.

Regimental strengths are only common for the period 1800-1815. It varies considerably for other periods. As much detail as is possible is always provided, though it can be very inconsistent between OB's.
The term "Abstract Return" means the OB is generally a very short OB listing only corps, divisional, or brigade. There are, of course, a few exceptions that give greater detail.

SOURCE DOCUMENTATION The source of most material is usually, but not always, listed at the bottom of the last page. This can range from the title of the book to a simple notation "French Archives" in the case of archival material. The accuracy of the material presented is limited by the accuracy of my source document and my typing (though the latter is checked reasonably tightly.) This does not preclude discrepancies. I have seen both archival material contradicting itself on the corps/divisional assignments of units and secondary source documents with printing and transposition errors. If your researches indicate something other than any OB you should buy from me please feel free to let me know.

Much of the WWII material comes from captured German documents held by the American National Archives, American Historical Association Committee for the Study of War Documents, Washington, DC.

Some OB's are composites generated from several source documents. In those cases, several citations will be listed at the bottom of the last page of the OB.

    QUESTIONS

I will gladly answer any questions you might have. Call 513-777-8734 5:00-10:00 p.m., EDT. Do both of us a favor, let it ring eight or ten times. It's a long run from the bathroom to the phone in the library. However, if you chose to telephone and I am not home, I won't return your call. Otherwise, please call back at a later time. There are times when you will not get an answer because I travel for business 3-4 times a year for periods of up to four weeks. If you wish to use E-Mail, please do. I ask that you use the subject line "OBs" as I get a lot of E-Mail and don't want to miss your letter because I was in a hurry. I should also add that sometimes the system seems to think that your E-Mail address doesn't exist. If you don't get an answer within a couple of days, don't hesitate to send the message a second time. I can be contacted at Nafziger@fuse.net Click here to Email me!.
RETURNS POLICY If you were sent an incorrect OB or are missing an OB let me know and I'll replace it after consulting your original order. I will make amends for soft bound booklets that have publishing errors, but the document in question must be returned at your expense before I will make adjustments. I will ship the replacement to you at my expense. If you are ordering books and a wrong book arrives, please return it and a replacement will be sent. If merchandise arrives that was damaged in shipping - well, that's what insurance is for. If you didn't request insurance and the post office mangles it, I'm sorry you declined the option to purchase insurance. As for terrain or buildings, damaged models will be replaced upon return of the damaged model. If it proves not to be what you want, then you will be charged a restocking fee of the postage paid to ship it to you, plus 10%.

RIGHTS SOLD: The material in these catalogs is copyrighted. Sale of this material does not waive any rights under copyright laws. Purchase of material from these catalogs authorizes the buyer personal use of that material, but in no way gives the buyer the right to re-sell, duplicate in any form, use for personal gain, display in public, or cause any material obtained from the collection to be published or distributed in any form. Nothing will be provided in an electronic form.

In every order of battle (OB) a variety of information is presented.

    File Numbers

When you are completing your order and find a file number difficult to read, the first three numbers are the year of the file, i.e. an OB from 1813 will always begin 813. If there are only three letters the first letter represents the month, A=January, E=May, L=December, X=unknown. If the second letter is an "X" or "Z" the file contains purely archival material, otherwise the second and third letters are purely random.

If there are four letters, the first one has a regional significance, "T" = Turkey, "S" = Spain, "U" = US/new world etc.
